Interview with Little Ghøs†
Thu, 17 Apr 2014

For those who don’t know, Little Ghøs† is Toronto based artist extraordinaire. Covering a wide variety of musical styles, his music is unique. It’s not hard to say that Little Ghøs† itself is not an artist, but more the art itself. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to check him out on Facebook!

1. Hello Little Ghost! Could you tell the readers about yourself?
Sure! Well, I’m a young musician // photographer // film maker & producer who grew up in the suburbs of Mississauga but quickly moved to Toronto through out my music career. I am the guy behind Little Ghost, everything on all the records & such are done by me but live, I occasionally have a drummer (Matt Calvin) & Bass player (Mike Marleau).

2. How would you describe yourself as an artist? How would you describe your music?
When it comes to my music and even my film, photography and all that (because Little Ghost isn’t just music, its me), I’m all about just staying true, staying real & staying me. The difference between me & most artists is that I really don’t care in a way, I make the kind of music I feel at the time. I really just go with what I feel more or less, despite what anybody else says, to a certain extent..

3. What inspired Little Ghost?
I was struggling through depression & mental health in 2012 & 2013 I was handling it in a pretty unhealthy manner & decided that I wanted to do something that would benefit me more then emotionally & mentally abusing myself & most people around me. I’ve been playing music & in bands for about 10 years but I wasn’t doing to much during that time due to all the stress & other things going on in my life, I decided to just start making music & thats where Little Ghost came in. I wasn’t even gonna release anything, it was just for me, I made ‘FNLE’ first about my struggle & journey & just sent it to a friend for his opinion, he really inspired me with his kind words to release it. Love the guy for that!
Thats where the name is from, I feel like that version of me through out those 2 difficult years is “dead & gone” & now theres a new person, a new me. The name Little Ghost is, a spiritual vendetta in a way, its a version of me that lived his whole life, killed himself and now is auditing my life & writing music based on it. All my songs are about something heavy & meaningful (or at least I try to make them mean something.) Each song is a story.

4. How do you like working as an independent artist?
I really enjoy it most times. The only negative thing about it is not everyone takes you seriously, which is difficult. But, artistic freedom and creativity is a must with music & art.

5. What do you think about Toronto’s music scene?
Toronto’s music scene is small, difficult & mildly clique-esq at times. But, I love it & I’m ever so grateful & honoured to be a part of it. The youth & young adults that are a part of this scene are inspiring as all hell. They write, rehearse, promote & just pour their heats into what they believe in & what they’re passionate for & it shows. Its incredibly inspiring & I’m SO honoured to know most of them & be in the same vibe as well as share their energy.

6. What are your future goals as Little Ghost? What’s coming next?
Hmm… Whats next for Little Ghost.. Well, a lot of new style experiments, I love to experiment with different sounds & things that I listen to but have never tried. Tour will also be coming soon, a lot of shows outside of Toronto (along with a lot inside). New merch & a new company/venue in the east end that ill be partnering with, which I am super excited for. As well as some news with labels & a couple music videos along with some collaborations. Gonna be a fun little year for this ghost. OH & before I forget a new EP & another full length coming REAL soon!

7. Thanks for your time! Any last words?

Thank you everyone for all the support and all that you ALL have done for me, you’re inspiring & I’m honoured to be a part of your day/year/month & scene in some sort of way.

Don’t hide your emotions, go with them.

Much love all,
<(‘o’<) Marcel (>’o')>
